Dr. Bonaventura Bolíbar graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and is a specialist in Public Health and Preventive Medicine. He was awarded a Fulbright scholarship by the Spanish Health Ministry to undertake the MSc in Public Health at the School of Public Health of the University of Michigan in 1986, and in 2010 he completed the MSc of Science Management at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra of Barcelona.

Dr. Bolíbar’s working experience started in the Health Promotion Unit of the Santa Coloma City Council. Next, he became the director of the pilot centre Ciutat Badia of the Catalan Health Institute, followed by an appointment as director of the Clinical Care Statistics Unit of the Area Centre of the Catalan Health Institute and participated in the Research Unit accredited by the REUNI of the Carlos III Health Institute. Dr. Bolíbar was subsequently appointed director of the Health Information Systems Unit of the Central Region of the Catalan Health Service.  In1998 he became the scientific director of the IDIAPJGol.

Dr. Bolíbar’s research has focused on the following areas of health services research in primary care: evaluation of health programmes and services; use of services and resources; variability in clinical practice, particularly with regard to implementation of preventive activities; design and evaluation of information systems; classification of health problems; validation of casemix systems for primary care; and creation of broad research support databases (REGIPREV and SIDIAP).

Dr. Bolíbar is the leader of the Health Services Research in Primary Care Group of the IDIAPJGol (GRenSSAP), linked from 2003 to the Research Network in Preventive Activities and Health Promotion (redIAPP) of the RETICS programme of the Carlos III Health Institute.The GRenSSAP has been accredited by the DURSI (University, Research and Information Society Department of the Generalitat de Catalunya, SGR 01468) as an emergent group. Dr. Bolíbar has also participated in the Research Network in Health Results and Services (IRYSS Network) of the 2003 RETICS programme. Since 2006 Dr. Bolíbar is the redIAPP coordinator (RD06/0018 - RD12/0018 - RD17/007) (www.rediapp.org).

Dr. Bolíbar has participated in various national and European projects as project leader or collaborator. He is the co-author of multiple journal articles and books.
