Author affiliation in scientific publications
The aim of this manual is to provide researchers of IDIAPJGol, ICS and related entities with criteria to properly place the author's affiliation in the various publications they make.
It is very important to use the same signature, and to always mention IDIAPJGol, as this is the only way to guarantee the visibility of the Institute.
Name and address of the Institute
The official name of the institution:
Fundació Institut Universitari per a la recerca a l'Atenció Primària de Salut Jordi Gol i Gurina
This is the name that must appear in the scientific affiliation. In addition to this nomenclature, for more informal uses we can use:
Institut d’investigació en Atenció Primària de Salut Jordi Gol
And as abbreviations:
IDIAPJGol (if written) o IDIAP Jordi Gol (if oral)

General criteria
Affiliation of authors in scientific publications
In reports or any other scientific papers, all authors must be listed and their institutional affiliation must be stated. In the case of the first author this is very important, since most bibliometric reports are based on the affiliation of the first author (e.g. Pubmed).
The correct assignment of the position favours the visibility of centres and institutions within the international scientific community, as well as the reliability of bibliometric indicators on productivity, impact, ranking, etc. of countries, regions and institutions.
Affiliations generally incorporate the institution, followed by the city and the country. All separated by commas, not full stops.
It is recommended to include the name of the institution in the original language. Including the English-translated name is common practice among some researchers to facilitate the international visibility of the center, however, it could only be done if the centre has a normalised name previously accepted by the institution and is always accompanied by the abbreviations corresponding to the center's name in the original language (e.g.: Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona i Institut Català de la Salut should be written in Catalan). In case of foreign journals, the country should be placed as: Spain..
An author may have more than one affiliation. In general, the primary affiliation of professionals corresponds to their job title, then the corresponding health research institute, city and country. There may also be a third affiliation (university, etc.).
On the other hand, it is also important to have the ORCID code. This is a 16-digit identifier based on the ISO 27729:2012 standard. It allows each researcher to have a unique, persistent and unequivocal author code to distinguish their publication from that of other authors. You can create your ORCID for free here.
Recommendation for names
While signing publications, keep in mind to always use the same signature for all publications. In addition, many databases consider the last word of the personal name as the surname and abbreviate the remaining elements to their initial. For example: the name "Pol Fernández Pérez" is incorrectly indexed as "Pérez, P. F.". To avoid this error, include a hyphen between those elements that the database does not need to separate: Pol Fernández-Pérez.
First names
If you have a compound name (Josep Maria, Anna Maria...), sign your publications with the first full name and the initial of the middle name. In this way, the database no longer interprets the middle initial as a surname:
Josep M.

If you want to include the middle name, use a hyphen between each elements to indicate to the indexing systems that it is all part of the first name, not the surname:
Josep-Maria
Anna-Maria
J.-Maria
A.-Maria
When your name includes a hyphen between the elements of the compound name (Jean-Paul), you can keep it following the same criteria as above::

If the compound name is joined by particles, such as articles or prepositions (Maria de Carme), it is better to omit them in the signature, as they generate indexing and retrieval problems. Following the examples, you should use:
Maria C.
However, if you want to maintain the integrity of the name, use a hyphen between each element to indicate to the indexing systems that they are all part of the name and not part of the surname::

Surnames if you include both surnames in your signature (recommended) or if you have a frequent first surname, add a hyphen between the two surnames to avoid incorrect indexing in the database for the last surname. Thus, the hyphen indicates that the first surname is not the second element of a compound name:
Pol Fernández-Pérez
To maintain the particles of the surnames (articles, prepositions...), include a hyphen between them:
Maria de-Arriba
Pep la-Banda
In this case, the names will be indexed by these particles (de Arriba, la Banda...). Therefore, if you want to be indexed by the surname without a particle (Arriba, Banda...) you have to omit it from your signature:

Criteria for authors' affiliation
Headquarters professionals
If a professional from the IDIAPJGol headquarters is an author, he/she will be identified as IDIAP Jordi Gol. In addition, all those who have the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona esfera card (NIU number) must state the affiliation as Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.

Professionals from USR (Research Support Unit)
In case of professionals from Research Support Units (USR), it should be stated as follows

As in the previous case of professionals from the headquarters, professionals who also have a NIU number) will register the UAB as their second affiliation:

ICS primary care staff
For ICS Primary Care staff, you should provide: the job title or UP, Primary Care Directorate and iCS (SAP is not given unless SAP is the same productive unit). All ICS primary care centres have to follow the double affiliation, stating IDIAPJGol/*USR-*IDIAPJGol. ICS created the IDIAPJGol to manage, support and advise on research in the primary care field, and for this reason it is important to state the dual affiliation.
Thus the proposed model is as follows:
1 Centre d'Atenció Primària... Gerència Territorial de Barcelona, Institut Català de la Salut, Barcelona, Spain.
Or
1 Programa d'Atenció a la Salut Sexual i Reproductiva Gironès – Pla de l'Estany, Direcció d'Atenció Primària.... Institut Català de la Salut, Girona, Spain.
(BCN stands for Territorial Management of Barcelona; the rest of Catalonia consists of Directorates, not territorial areas.)

Dual affiliation with USR (Research Support Unit)
If there is a professional linked to the USR in his/her territory (released employees, part-time, etc.) the centre and the USR will be indicated and then IDIAPJGol does not have to be used as a second affiliation, as the USR incorporates the name, for example:
1 Centre d'Atenció Primària ....... Direcció d'Atenció Primària ..... Institut Català de la Salut, ....., Spain.
2 Unitat de Suport a la Recerca .... Fundació Institut Universitari per a la recerca a l'Atenció Primària de Salut Jordi Gol i Gurina (IDIAPJGol), Barcelona, Spain.
Multiple affiliations
If a researcher has to indicate a link to more than one organisation, it is recommended to use a separate line for each affiliation. This will help to ensure that the publication is correctly identified in the databases and helps to measure the impact of the research. For example:

Other cases
In the case of staff seconded by the ICS to the IDIAP Jordi Gol, both institutions must be listed:

2 Institut Català de la Salut, ....., Spain.
In the case of a university hospital, it could also be used:
1 Departament .... Hospital Universitari Vall d'Hebron, Barcelona, Spain.
There are special cases of staff (collaborators, associate professor, etc. from other universities). In this case, the name UAB would not be included but the name of the university where they are teaching.

For RICAPPS, the affiliation of the institution itself should be listed first, and the affiliation of the network should be listed second or third, as appropriate:
Red de Investigación en Cronicidad, Atención Primaria y Promoción de la Salud (RICAPPS)

Network for Research on Chronicity, Primary Care, and Health Promotion (RICAPPS)
The rest of the information, such as the file code or the name of the group will be financed together with the mention of the ISCIII and the European Union. Remember that they are no longer ERDF funds, so you must indicate "Funded by the European Union - NextGenerationEU".
A posible sentence for the funding section would be:
